Presented by Magnetized Productions, CLYDE HILL has put together another roster of inspired rock bands which made for a kickass Friday night @ Tunnel (the old Picadilly Pub on West Pender). Wall-to-wall screens and decent drink prices make Tunnel a great new venue for local live-acts and patrons looking to rock out with their respective genitalia out.

In addition to house-band DRILLER, Friday night saw COASTLINE PILOT, BASTARD SKINNY, and TARL take the stage. Speaking of awkward segways…

Led by twin brothers LEO and THOMAS TESAN, COASTLINE PILOT delivers their own brand of emo-based pop-punk akin to a hybrid Hedley meets Blink 182. They draw a great young college crowd of appreciative fans, writing the type of music that’s a great soundtrack if your breaking up or falling in love (or are totally wasted and about to drunk dial that crazy-ex who keeps giving your facebook pics a “Like” just to piss off your new girlfriend… oh, I’ve shared too much) Highlight of the night was definitely their tune BROTHERS as well as an on-point tribute to Sublime. Looking forward to seeing what COASTLINE PILOT delivers on their upcoming CD-release.

BASTARD SKINNY frontman STEPHEN SELSKI delivers some of the highest intensity and most committed performances that you’ll see on the local scene. BS is the perfect balance of art and commercial sensibilities with mid-tempo songs like CAPTAIN AMERICA and the punk-inspired HEY BABY. With RYAN CHAMBERLAIN’s crunchy guitar riffs and SCOTT BURTON’s solid bass lines, Bastard Skinny made this smaller venue feel huge with a great groove and the BEST cover of Tool’s Stinkfist that I’ve ever heard. This is a band to keep your eye on! Buy their new EP bitches!

Straight outta Abbotsford and the night’s headliner, TARL’s a well-rehearsed and polished act with a solid backbeat and ne’er a misplayed note. Lead vocalist TARL FESER keeps the mood light and festive with a magnetic personality and a wicked scream when he needs to. Would like to see these guys on a bigger stage that allows more movement, as I can guarantee they let it loose when given the opportunity. If Default, State of Shock, and Matchbox 20 are on your Ipod’s shuffle, DEFINITELY add Tarl or when Twitter goes down, Tarl will follow you in real life. Show highlights include FALL, EVIL GIN, and THE SOCIAL. http://www.tarlsmusic.com
